What's Up Wednesday
It's time for What's Up Wednesday, a weekly meme run by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow. Here's what I've been up to this past week!
What I'm reading
I read The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. It's a dark, gritty and totally addictive epic fantasy. Recommended!
I'm also beta-ing Jess's manuscript, the sequel to her debut, which she recently signed with Curiosity Quills! :)
What I'm writing
I finished an Alliance short story, one I've been attempting to get done since December! (I struggle with short stories for some reason. I've written two entire novels since starting this one!)
I also got out one of the YA urban fantasy manuscripts I wrote last year, the one I was working on when I got completely derailed by the Alliance series in August. :P The draft's in better shape than I remember, and I completely forgot that I have a series outline, so I'm considering revisiting this one for Camp NaNoWriMo! The problem is, I also revisited my YA post-apocalyptic duology, which is also less of a train wreck than I remember, and realised I could expand it into a longer series. Indecisiveness...
My writing goal this week: Decide which project to work on! :P
What works for me
Writing, writing all the time. I should know by now that I turn into an unbearable grump when not writing, seeing as I've been compulsively putting words on paper since I could hold a pen. I've pretty much concluded that any attempt I make to have a break from writing will end with me in front of the computer again. :P
What else is new
I started watching The 100, to see what all the fuss is about, and I'm hooked!
I'm also busy with freelance work, as I'm running a Spring Sale on my editing and proofreading services. :)

Emma, your constant writing is an inspiration. I've actually thought (in my laziest moments) "look at all the writing Emma gets done!" and then I feel motivated to get my butt in gear. So, thank you! :-) Have a great week, lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks! ^_^
DeleteI am with Katy -- you're such an inspiration to me. I'm like, okay, Emma is writing I should be too. You rock! We need to do more writing parties on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks! :) Yes, we do! I'm looking forward to drafting again.
DeleteI just picked up Lies of Locke Lamora! I've meant to read it for a while, a bunch of people I know loved it (my friend named her cat Locke) and then I saw Scott Lynch on some panels at a book festival last week and now I keep thinking about it. He had a lot of great things to say about writing main characters who do messed up things.
ReplyDeleteI struggle with short stories, too, but have been getting more into them. I actually used to write them a lot. I miss them.
Everyone keeps recommending The 100,which is precisely why I haven't watched it! :D Don't need something new and shiny to distract me.
Yay for writing! Break? We don't need no stinkin' break!
It's a great read! :) The 100 is worth watching, too.
DeleteThe Lies of Locke Lamora, yet another book I still need to read...
ReplyDeleteHope you manage to settle on a project soon!
Thanks! :)
DeleteWow to getting all that writing done! And I guess I'll have to start watching 100. I've been undecided but will give in :)
ReplyDeleteIt's worth watching! :)
DeleteI am an unbearable grump when not writing too. Hope you have a non-grumpy week!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThanks!
DeleteIt's hard when you've got so many projects to work on, isn't it? I've gotta do one thing at a time.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about The 100 but I really shouldn't add another show to my list! I can't keep up as it is!
I do need to make up my mind!
DeleteI know what you mean, there are so many good shows out there!
Good job writing ALL THE WORDS!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteCongrats on finishing your Alliance short story and good luck with all your work on the rest of the series! It was pretty darn exciting to find Adamant in my mailbox looking all shiny and awesome! Also, I'm an unbearable grump when I'm not writing too. I think I need it to keep me balanced. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) Glad the book reached you okay! I love being able to hold it in paperback form.
DeleteDang girl, keep on rockin'!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteI've been putting off The 100 b/c I'm pretty sure I'll be sucked in and, sadly, I don't have time to binge-watch right now. But hopefully soon otherwise I'll be majorly spoiled.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week of writing!
Hope you enjoy it when you watch it! :)
DeleteCongrats on wrapping up that short story! Back when I wrote novels and the like, I always thought shorts were harder to finish, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd LOL, sorry your muse has given you such a difficult choice to make. Good luck figuring out which of those projects you should pursue first!
Thanks! :)
DeleteNothing better than looking back at work you haven't touched for a while and realizing it's not nearly as bad as you thought it was.
