I'm baaaaack! :)
Welcome to What's Up Wednesday, a weekly meme run by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow. Here's what I've been up to this past week!
What I'm reading
I just got back from holiday, and I had lots of time for reading with no internet connection! :) I read the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima (The Demon King, The Exiled Queen, The Gray Wolf Throne and The Crimson Crown) and I loved it! I'm adding it to my all-time top fantasy series list. Very, very highly recommended. *adds all her other books to TBR list*
I also read more of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, starting with Magic Bites and Magic Burns. I'm loving this urban fantasy series!
I also really enjoyed The Beautiful and the Cursed by Page Morgan, and I'm now reading the Return to Camelot trilogy by Donna Hosie.
What I'm writing
I had the best writing week when I had no internet! 17,000 words in a week, and a ton of brainstorming for a potential new project (a plotbunny found me!). I'm heading for the home stretch in my YA post-apocalyptic sequel, and I'm also a decent way into my next draft, a YA contemporary fantasy. YAY WORDS! :D
What inspires me
Words! Holidays and sun and pretty places. :)
What else I've been up to
Well, I went away for week with a friend to S'Illot in Majorca/Mallorca, a sunny Spanish island! ^_^ And it was fantastic! As well as spending plenty of time in the sun (and reading a ton of books/writing a ton of words!), I also had adventures! We went on a really great boat trip along the coast, seeing all the pretty beaches and caves. :)
We also went to the safari zoo, where we got to ride around in a train and have close encounters with all the animals! (A baboon rode on the roof at one point!) We also saw baby zebras and were followed by a demon goat in the petting zoo. Eep. But we also saw baby goats, newborn baby piglets, tigers and lions basking in the sun, and a lot more!
And that wasn't the end to our animal encounters! An animal show came to our hotel, so we ended up getting our photos taken with barn owls, parrots (which tried to eat my hair!), and a gigantic two-metre-long python. Hey, I have to do at least one crazy adventurous thing per holiday! :D
On a less pleasant note, I now have flu...again. Less than 24 hours after returning to England. So I'm holed up in the nest again, only two weeks after recovering from the last bout of Plague. A curse on my nonexistent immune system!
Wow, now that's a vacation! Not sure I'd want a snake like that draped around my shoulder though, lol.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I'm glad that you had such a great time. Sorry about the flu, though. :-/
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Your vacation photos are beautiful! Looks like an amazing place to visit! And 17K words is fantastic! I think I need to go away somewhere where there's no Internet. Have a great week, Emma! :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time in Majorca! :) Those zebras are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the writing front! Have a great week!
So what you're saying is we need to go on vacation to some crazy beautiful place, read all the books, and write all the words? I like this idea. Very much. ;-) Glad you had a great time, though coming home and getting the flu is pretty terrible. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteBoo for feeling ill. Flu is the worst! Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteHooray for having such a great holiday. That's loads of writing and plot bunnies. Yay :D
Oh my word those pics of your trip are gorgeous and fun! The colour of the water is just beautiful. I could handle sitting there reading a book right about now! I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip, but sorry to hear you have the flu now. I hope that means a little more reading time at least, although it sounds like you've had lots of that lately!
ReplyDeleteYour mention of being followed by the "demon goat" cracked me up because we had two similar zoo experiences. A goat once "attacked" my son at a petting zoo (Jaime was there and is laughing hysterically in the background of the picture I took) and in Florida, Jaime and I were chased by a creepy little wild pig--right into the gift shop! Gotta love zoos! Have a super week! :)
Sounds like a great vacation! It's too bad you had to come home only to get sick right away. Boo.
ReplyDeleteAah, giant snake!!! You are so brave haha.
ReplyDeleteYour trip looks amazing! I think I could definitely use a week without internet. Oh the things I could accomplish! I'm so sorry you're sick again. What a bummer. I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time on your trip, but BOO to being sick! Hope you're feeling better very soon.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I just bought the Seven Realms Series! I'm starting it this weekend. I can't wait. I keep hearing such great things about it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the great writing week! Vacations awesome things, aren't they? Such awesome pictures. I love the owl so much! And I really want to hold a python! I haven't seen a snake that big in so long. Sorry you're sick again. I hope you kick it soon!
Love your photos of Mallorca!!! And as someone absolutely obsessed with animals you can guess how jealous I am right about now. Love that a baboon decided to ride along. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on having such a stellar week of writing. 17K is super impressive!! You need to stop now, you're making the rest of us feel like under achievers ;)
I'm so sorry you have the flu now though. Glad it didn't hit you during your trip, that would have been awful. Feel better soon. *gives you hot tea and scones*
I guess you should lose your internet connection more often. The downside of losing internet is that you tend to come done with the flu later!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! :)
ReplyDeleteYou wrote 17K in just a week?! Whoa, impressive!
Also, great pictures! I absolutely adore owls, so it was cool to see you pictured with one!
That sucks about the flu, though. Hope you feel better soon!
Hey, Emma! Sorry about the link-up tool on my blog. The free version seems to automatically close after a month. I just extended it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read your entry!

The owl I can deal with; the snake is all yours and I'm behind the door, hiding. I'd love to fall into that pool right now. Your vacation sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteStopped by to read and follow.
Sounds like a really fun vacation!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! It seems as if you had a lot of fun.
