What's Up Wednesday & IWSG

It's time for What's Up Wednesday, a weekly meme run by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow. Here's what I've been up to this past week!

What I'm reading

I was lucky enough to get a review copy of The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma from Netgalley. I can't say too much about the plot without spoiling it, but it's a suspenseful, haunting thriller. I highly recommend it.

What I'm writing

The final Alliance book! *screams*

I got Adamant back from the proofreader, which means... it's final read-through time!

My writing goal this week: More words on Alliance Book 6!

What works for me

Being a hermit in my writing cave. Cole tagged me to share my writing space, so I snapped a few photos!

The writing desk! It's relatively tidy right now. Desktop computer, TV/other monitor, iPod speakers, and a lot of notebooks.

Meet my cheerleading team. :P

Typical manic writing day = a litre-bottle of diet coke and Scrivener. ;)

What else is new

I got to reveal the cover for Adamant! :D I've been staring at this for two months. *stares some more*

And it's already available to pre-order! :D   Amazon   Kobo   Barnes and Noble   Apple

It's also time for IWSG! The Insecure Writer's Support Group is the creation of Ninja Captain Alex, and is a great way for writers to share their worries, support and encouragement.

I've mentioned before that self-doubt definitely doesn't go away after being published. And as I prepare to launch my first self-published book... yep, it's happening again. Of course, I'm excited, and the response to the cover reveal has been astonishing - I'm actually getting pre-orders! I'm using the word "exciterrified" to accurately describe my feelings on this. On the one hand, I love this story and I want to share it. On the other, it's been in my head for so long that part of me wants to cling onto it and not subject it to the same cycle of hope and disappointment as my other books.

I'm doing the final proofread this week, which is sparking a new wave of insecurities - as I'm self-publishing, I'm the one who has to make the final call and decide when the book's ready to be published. And it's proving incredibly difficult to stop tweaking sentences! But the book's been through nine editing rounds and now a professional proofread. I think it's definitely time to let go!

  7. People think self-publishing is easy, but (if you do it right) it's incredibly hard.
Sounds like you're ready, though, so GO FOR IT!!!

Nice cover, by the way. ;)

  19. Your writing space looks so cosy! And oh my gosh -- that blue dragon statue at the back behind your Funkos, I have a collection of ones in the same style! I'll need to take a photo of them some time to show you. :D My parents used to buy them for me when I was younger, they're so nice and detailed.

I loooovee the Adamant cover so much!
